Applying the User-Centered Design approach for Prototyping the Interfaces of an Intelligent Emergency Management System
In today’s disaster management context, decision-making and information management is a
crucial aspect, given the complexity of the tasks the decision-maker has, as well as the sheer influx
of information coming in at any given time. As such there is a need to develop a system that can
aid both the decision makers in the command post but can also collect the information gathered
by the responders on the field. This system should also aid the decision maker by providing
counselling according a set of rules, giving the system an intelligent aspect. Thusly THEMIS is
born, an intelligent system to support decision making in crisis scenarios.
As any given system must have an interface, the usability and user experience are a concern, but
given the nature of crisis scenarios, this aspect of user interfaces becomes much more critical.
It is in this context that this dissertation’s goal becomes clear: design and test the interface
prototype of an emergency management intelligent system, following the User-Centered Design
framework.
With this goal in mind, the steps of the framework were followed, by beginning to understand the
user, the context of use, resulting in understanding the user’s needs. From here, the system
requirements emerged, and paper prototyping began. After validation with experts and possible
users, the interfaces were prototyped digitally for both the desktop and mobile system
applications. This was followed by usability tests, using the Cognitive Walkthrough method, the
System Usability Score and the User Experience Questionnaire. In order to complement the
testing phase, eye tracking data was gathered during the desktop version’s usability tests, which
gave further insight about user behaviour.
As such, it was concluded that prototypes scored highly both for usability and user experience,
and there was an overall improvement on the various versions of both the desktop and mobile
apps. The tests with eye tracking also allowed to identify a few issues that otherwise couldn’t be
detected, namely key items the users were missing on the interfaces

usualmente associadas a lesões orais dolorosas.
Em
termos imunopatológicos podemos classificar as lesões orais, maioritariamente, associadas a
Autoimmune diseases are considered chronic inflammatory diseases being usually associated
with painful oral lesions .
Oral manifestations may be considered as early signs/symptoms of several autoimmune
diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Pemphigus, between others. As immunopathological
conditions we can classify the oral lesions, as mainly associated, with Rheumatic, ulcerous
and bullous autoimmune diseases. It's vitally important an early intervention, in several cases
associated with a precise diagnostic, and a good communication between a multidisciplinary
medical team including the medical dentist.
These pathologies need, beyond the correct diagnostic a familiarization with the existing
therapies, to define the better treatment plan for the individual thereby reducing the morbidity
and improving the quality life of the patient
The Behavioral Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire (BREQ-3) Portuguese-Version: Evidence of Reliability, Validity and Invariance Across Gender
This study has as prime objective to analyze the psychometric properties of the Behavioral Regulation Exercise Questionnaire (BREQ-3) in a sample of Portuguese exercisers and invariance across gender. Two independent samples (448 calibration; 374 validation), aged between 16 and 78 years (M = 40.29; SD = 16.24), of both
gender, (495 female; 327 male) were enrolled in this study. The results show that the original model (six factors; 24 items) did not fit to the data in a satisfactory way (χ 2 = 977.49; df = 237; B-S p < 0.001; SRMR = 0.07; NNFI = 0.80; CFI = 0.83; RMSEA = 0.08; 90% CI = 0.08–0.09). After removing six items (one for each factor), the model (six factors; 18 items) adjustment improved in a satisfactory way in both samples: calibration (χ 2 = 331.86; df = 120; B-S p < 0.001; SRMR = 0.06; NNFI = 0.91; CFI = 0.93; RMSEA = 0.06; 90% CI 0.06–0.07) and validation (χ 2 = 254.08; df = 120; B-S p < 0.001; SRMR = 0.04; NNFI = 0.93; CFI = 0.95; RMSEA = 0.06; 90% CI = 0.05–0.06). Results also showed model invariance across gender (1CFI ≤ 0.01). The Portuguese version of BREQ-3 (six factors; 18 items) is a valid and reliable measurement instrument to measure behavior regulation underlying self-determination theory in the exercise domain. However, the evidence also indicated that additional studies are needed to address the fragilities of the original model (six factors; 24 items).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Implementation of a Private Cloud
The exponential growth of hardware requirements coupled with online services development costs have brought the need to create dynamic and resilient systems with networks able to handle high-density traffic.
One of the emerging paradigms to achieve this is called Cloud Computing it proposes
the creation of an elastic and modular computing architecture that allows dynamic
allocation of hardware and network resources in order to meet the needs of applications.
The creation of a Private Cloud based on the OpenStack platform implements this
idea. This solution decentralizes the institution resources making it possible to aggregate resources that are physically spread across several areas of the globe and allows an optimization of computing and network resources.
With this in mind, in this thesis a private cloud system was implemented that is capable of elastically leasing and releasing computing resources, allows the creation of public and private networks that connect computation instances and the launch of virtual
machines that instantiate servers and services, and also isolate projects within the same system.
The system expansion should start with the addition of extra nodes and the modernization of the existing ones, this expansion will also lead to the emergence of network problems which can be surpassed with the integration of Software Defined Network controllers
Business plan for an innovative tutoring and study center
This thesis is the elaboration of a business plan for developing a totally innovative center in Portugal. It is innovative because there are still no places like this in our country. The project consists in a tutoring center which encloses a space exclusively for studying and also a cafeteria service, meaning that students can come to the center to study, make their homework and individual or group Works, once they have space and conditions to do so: tables, chairs, internet WIFI and all the commodities needed. But they can also opt for having tutoring sessions on some curricular unities, in which they might have difficulties. All this is associated to a cafeteria service which allows for students to eat and drink something without having to leave the center. There will also be a high technological printer, which can print any type of work in high quality and that students can use to print the work they make at the center.
However, for the creation of a center like the one described to be possible, it is necessary to make diverse studies. Firstly, a literature review on strategic management and business plans has been made. Next, has proceeded a market analysis. Only after making a market analysis it was possible to create a marketing plan. Finished the marketing plan, it was elaborated a management plan. To conclude, it is necessary to make the entire financial analysis in order to have a perception of the business’s viability.
Case study: Lisbon: A dream destination?
Tourism is a noticeable phenomenon of the XXI century, assuming critical importance in the several spheres that compose life in community, constituting an economic, political, cultural and social aegis hard to find in other areas of society.
This case study is edged under this problematic, starting from a set of international tourism trends to focus on a specific destination, the capital of Portugal, Lisbon.
Key facts will be presented, seeking for a globalizing and integrating discussion around the diverse themes that comprise the strategic management and brand promotion of a tourism destination, involving a deep study of the Lisbon tourism market, primarily evaluating its perceived image and positioning dimensions and relating to its specific target markets profile characteristics.
Lisbon is framed on a strong competitive scenario, striving for a differentiation relatively to the main European destinations through holistic strategies based on a principle of alignment between the several tourism products of the city and region that contribute for its overall positioning as a destination.
A literature review will be presented, in order to contribute for a generic comprehension of the case study, highlighting key concepts of destination strategic marketing, such as branding, image and consumer behavior in tourism.
The educational character is attributed by the hot topic and recent importance of Lisbon in the international tourism panorama reflecting an optimistic future perspective, aiming at decisively contributing to the leverage of the Portuguese society, not only at an economic level, but also considering a social and spiritual dimension.http://hdl.handle.net/10071/518
